Wild About Temple

At Meet Temple, we are wild about our city and think you should be, too. From first-class healthcare and education to unlimited access to Texas metros and the Hill Country, and careers that exemplify the American dream of a true work-life balance, we have it all. As winter blossoms into unequivocal Texas spring that displays an array of flowers as diverse as our people and opportunities, it’s a great time to show you that everything really is bigger in Texas – especially quality of life!

There’s no question – the Temple, Texas population is booming. Between 2010 and 2019, the city saw an 18.7 percent population increase, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Located just 45 minutes north of Austin, our region offers residents the balance between family-friendly community amenities and a big-city lifestyle. Particularly in light of COVID-19, a relocation to Temple could mean more opportunity at a lower cost of living for those who live in large metro areas facing economic and lifestyle challenges due to the pandemic.

It’s not just the population that’s growing either. Between October 2015 and October 2020, the region saw a 3.2 percent increase in its civilian labor force, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Skilled talent continues to flock to Central Texas due to the combination of our proximity to large Texas metros, low cost of living, and great quality-of-life assets. Living in Temple, Texas means access to excellent schools and a vibrant professional community.

As the talent attraction branch of Temple Economic Development Corporation (Temple EDC), it’s only natural that we want to shout our city’s allure from the rooftops. But don’t just take our word for it. See what several successful business leaders, all transplants to the area, have to say about living and working in the heart of Central Texas:

“Temple has a small-town atmosphere and a true community feel,” says Dell Ingram-Walker, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at McLane Children’s Baylor Scott & White Medical Center. “It’s a nice place to work and to raise your family, and the pace is much slower. Temple looked very different 20 years ago. There is much more diversity in the people that work here now. I love the culture and the diversity – it’s a different feel.”

Dell’s observation of Temple’s growth echoes throughout the community. Photographer and Owner of downtown-based Studio on the Avenue Wes Albanese has been here to witness the acceleration and works to put Temple’s beauty on display.

“I want people to be proud of where they live and where they work,” Wes says. “Temple citizens care about their city. We are growing and everyone can see how beautiful Temple really is and the great places it has to offer.”

When it comes to local pride, Elliot Germany, President and CEO of Panel Specialists, Inc. (PSI), wears his like a badge of honor. Elliot originally came to Killeen as a soldier at Fort Hood but decided to call the area home after witnessing how ripe Central Texas is with opportunities and strong leadership.

“Leaders in Temple do a phenomenal job taking care of the community,” says Elliot. ”Local partners are constantly working hand-in-hand to improve Temple. People here are concerned about every member of the community. I think that’s a wonderful thing about Temple: we take care of each other. You live here long enough, and you can’t help but fall in love.”
