Scott & White Healthcare is breaking ground today on a $32 million, five-story pediatric clinic adjacent to McLane Children’s Hospital Scott & White in Temple.
The 112,000-square-foot facility will coordinate both outpatient and inpatient pediatric specialty services with physicians in one location.
“Building the clinic next to the hospital creates a center of care for children unlike any other in this region,” said Reddy Beeram, chairman of pediatrics at Scott & White Healthcare.
Construction is expected to take 14 months, and is scheduled to open by fall 2013. It’s being constructed on the McLane Children’s campus so it can be connected to a new hospital bed tower that’s part of future expansion plans.
The building will house more than 80 physicians, residents and fellows, and about 200 support staff. It will have 135 exam rooms, 13 treatment rooms and eight specialty rooms. A drive-through pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory services will be included.
The Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is a key feature of the new building. At 8,000 square feet, it will more than double the size of the existing pediatric cancer center.
Enhanced services will include a Pediatric Neurosciences Center, catering to child psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, neuropsychology and child development.
