Panda Power: Fueling one of Texas’ fastest growing communities

While we take pride in Temple, Texas as a powerhouse for economic growth, Panda Power Funds values the city as a center for generating electricity.

In 2013, the energy giant completed at 758 megawatt expansion of its natural gas-fueled, combined-cycle power plant. The expansion resulted in Temple I and II generating stations. Together, these plants have the capacity of 1,516 megawatts, which is enough energy to power a whopping 1.5 million homes in Central and North Texas.

The Temple power stations utilize the most advanced combustion turbine and emissions-control technology, making them two of the cleanest, most efficient natural gas-fueled power plants in the United States. Moreover, the natural gas is locally sourced from Texas producers and both stations use recycled effluent for cooling purposes to conserve Texas’ natural supply of drinking water.

From the 2013 construction through the site’s tenth anniversary in 2023, Panda Power Funds will have contributed $1.6 billion to Temple’s local economy. Ninety jobs have been created to support the stations’ functions, and nearly 800 jobs were created to complete the construction. What may be most amazing is that a mere 35 workers operate the stations 24/7, 365 days a year.

Thanks to the men and women at Panda Power Temple I and II for keeping the lights on. Be sure to follow Temple EDC on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter for more energizing updates from Temple, Texas.
