Historic Downtown Temple 

Are you the kind of person that loves to be in the heart of it all? Steeped in a rich, 150-plus year history, Temple’s downtown offers a storied past paired with modern amenities. Go shopping at one of the many boutique stores or grab a bite at locally owned restaurants like Pignetti’s or Bird Creek Burger Co. 

The nearby Santa Fe Plaza Trail adds to the walkability of this downtown district, and the Santa Fe Gardens offers a peaceful oasis made up of 80% native Texas plants, a gazebo and picnic tables. If you have the kids with you, watch as their imagination soars at the train-themed Whistle Stop Playground.  

Social butterflies will enjoy downtown Temple’s nightlife options, like the live music, craft beverages, food trucks and late-night shopping of First Friday. West Temple 

Complete with expansive green space and sparkling waterways, West Temple is a quiet retreat just a short drive from downtown. With Belton Lake as its centerpiece, West Temple offers ample outdoor recreation opportunities, like boating, swimming, hiking and camping across 19.2 miles of land ripe for exploration. And if you’re a fisherman, be sure to bring your tackle box — more than 260 acres of waterways, bluffs, hilltops and open spaces await anglers at Miller Springs. 

West temple is also home to the Scott & White Farmers Market and more than 30 acres of playgrounds, jogging trails, soccer fields and volleyball and basketball courts at West Temple Community Park.

East Temple 

Travel east of downtown Temple and you’ll find a family-friendly community full of character and culture. Enjoy pumpkin picking in the fall, fresh Christmas tree shopping in the winter and an Easter egg hunt in the spring at the Robinson Family Farm. The region’s hub for youth engagement, Wilson Park Recreation Center, provides a variety of holistic afterschool programming — from arts & crafts to sports and even its own film academy.  

Speaking of art, the creative juices are always flowing at the Cultural Activities Center just a ten-minute drive north of Wilson Park. Bring the whole family to a musical performance or play it solo and enroll in a ceramics class. Midway 

Comfort meets convenience in Temple’s Midway neighborhood, where suburban amenities and proximity to some of Temple’s most prestigious institutions collide. Midway is home to several healthcare facilities including Baylor Scott & White, the Temple Health & Bioscience District and the VA Medical Center. Ready for something less commercial? Take a ten-minute drive to Lions Park and enjoy its 100 acres of hike-and-bike trails, playgrounds, disc golf course and softball fields. You can even catch a summer concert or participate in goat yoga at Sam Farrow Amphitheatre. Lion’s Park is also home to The Rotary Club of Temple South Accessible Playground, which provides accessible fun for children of all ages and all abilities. Your four-legged friends are also able to stretch their legs inside of the Central Texas Bark Park.
