Don-Nan Pump & Supply to Build Manufacturing Facility

*UPDATE- During the course of development the Don-Nan Pump & Supply project capital investment grew substantially from $4 million to $25 million.

TEMPLE, Texas—The Temple Economic Development Corporation (Temple EDC) today announced that Don-Nan Pump & Supply will expand to Temple with a new $4 million, 45,000-square-foot manufacturing, warehouse and distribution center. The company will begin construction by the end of the year on the building, which will sit on an 8-acre tract at the TEDC’s Enterprise Park.

The building is expected to be complete by summer 2013. During the first year, the company plans to hire 12 or more local manufacturing workers, each with an annual salary of at least $45,000 plus benefits, including health insurance and a matching 401K program.

Central Texas is an ideal location for companies in or supporting the oil industry. There are an estimated 30 million or more gallons of undiscovered oil in the Permian Basin, therefore the Midland/Odessa area is expected to continue to grow.

“As this industry continues to grow and companies in Midland/Odessa need to expand their operations, they are looking for new resources to meet workforce demands,” said Charley Ayres, director of business development, Temple EDC. “With more than 500 well-trained veterans transitioning out of the military each month from Fort Hood, Don-Nan Pump & Supply was attracted to Temple’s available workforce and strategic location in Central Texas.”

Fifty year old Don-Nan Pump & Supply has experienced significant growth during the past 10 years when the company expanded from repairing pumps for the oil field to manufacturing the pumps. Today, Don-Nan is one of the four largest pump manufacturers in the world with international sales and locations in Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Texas and Wyoming. The company employs 340 nationwide.

“We have experienced 25 to 30 percent annual growth during the past five years, and to support and sustain this growth we needed to add another manufacturing facility staffed by skilled talent,” said Don Caruth, president of Don-Nan Pump & Supply. “In addition to a readily available and trained workforce in a prime location, we also found helpful and progressive community leaders in Temple who were supportive and moved quickly to address our needs.”

At an Oct. 18 meeting, the Temple City Council unanimously approved an agreement with Don-Nan Pump & Supply for a property tax abatement program that is based on the company’s capital investment, average wage and a comprehensive benefits program for workers.
