BAE to Retrofit Bradleys in Temple

BAE Systems Inc. this month signed a 70,000-square-foot lease for a vacant industrial building at Temple’s Rail Park, where it plans to retrofit tanks.

Known locally as the former Temple Steel building, the structure will house a facility that will retrofit Bradley Fighting Vehicles from military installations such as Fort Bliss and Fort Hood.

Initially, the site will employ about 70 people. That number could eventually rise to 100, according to the Temple Economic Development Corp.

Tax breaks were involved to bring BAE to the site, said Charley Ayers, director of business development at the Temple Economic Development Corp.
