New affiliation between Baylor Scott & White and Baylor College of Medicine launches plans in Central Texas health and life sciences hub bringing jobs and growth to the city

TEMPLE, TEXAS – Meet Temple, the talent attraction arm of the Temple Economic Development Corporation (Temple EDC), today announced its support of the new regional medical school campus in Temple, Texas for the growth and development of the local area workforce. Baylor Scott & White Health, the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in the State of Texas, and Houston-based Baylor College of Medicine, recently announced a new affiliation aimed to train future clinicians and develop programs that advance healthcare innovation through the creation of a new regional medical school campus in Temple, Texas.

“We are thrilled by this announcement,” says Amanda Carlson, Temple EDC Director of Marketing and Communications. “Temple currently serves as a regional hub for quality health and life sciences and more than 40 percent of our workforce is employed in healthcare. Temple is home to outstanding resources for educating, training, and developing physicians who will in turn serve our growing community. This is great news for our workforce, employers, and citizens alike.”

The four-year Baylor College of Medicine medical school will deliver personalized medical education with a goal to increase the Texas physician workforce pipeline of graduates who serve as leaders and provide outstanding clinical care for Texans. The inaugural class of 40 students is expected to begin training in Temple in 2023.
