Expansion of the Santa Fe Development Project Planned

The Santa Fe Market and Trail, Phase 2 of the Santa Fe Project, is set to begin this August and estimated to be completed within 7 months. The Santa Fe Market and Trail is a $1.5 million investment encompassing a total of 3.28 acres. This project comes on the heels of the final completion of Phase 1 of the Santa Fe Development Project: a $30 million redevelopment of the Santa Fe Plaza, a multi-functional plaza anchored by the Santa Fe Depot and bordered by the new Santa Fe Business Center and Temple ISD’s new administrative building.

The Santa Fe Trail will be a pedestrian path that connects the Santa Fe Plaza redevelopment to the Santa Fe Market through improvements underneath the 3rd Street bridge. The Trail will feature landscaping, brick paving, gateway columns and enhanced lighting along the connecting path. There will also be a kids play center underneath the bridge.

The Trail will be a gateway to the Santa Fe Market which will showcase a food truck court, pavilion, art and an open lawn for gatherings and events. The gardens in the Market will be 80 percent native Texas plants and include benches, gazebo and picnic tables.

The Santa Fe Development Project is funded by the Temple Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ). Temple is one of the select communities in Texas with a designated TIRZ program, which continually serves as a major boon for the city by funding projects of this kind.
