Fikes Endowed Scholarship The companies also provided a $208,000 installment toward a previously announced $1 million commitment to the Fikes/CEFCO Emergency Center at the McLane’s Children Hospital in Temple, Texas.

The Fikes Cos. now support nine individual C.E. Fikes Endowed Scholarships that commemorate CEFCO’s founder Clarence Edison Fikes, in the communities that Fikes/CEFCO c-stores serve.

“Just five years ago our total contribution was $145,000. Our results this year represent a $618,000 or more than 400% improvement since then. This does not happen without tremendous passion by all of our team members for these very worthy causes,” said Brett Giesick, chief retail officer of CEFCO Convenience Stores. “We are extremely proud of the commitment that our 2,500 associates exhibit toward helping these children in need. Special recognition goes to our top selling store managers Alesia Hernandez of Philadelphia, Miss., Peg Barta of Temple, Texas, Shane Aid of Cameron, Texas, and Curtis Thompson, whose store teams raised a collective $40,000.” District manager David Carter was also recognized for his team’s efforts as the top district.

“Without the efforts of our frontline associates, Fikes/CEFCO support department fundraising, business partners, and customers, these results would not be possible.”

In 1999, CEFCO/Fikes began its partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, with $700 raised in stores. To date, CEFCO/Fikes has raised and donated nearly $4 million to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, various C.E. Fikes Endowed Scholarships and McLane Children’s Hospital Scott & White.

Temple, Texas-based CEFCO Convenience Stores is the 30th-largest company-operated chain in the convenience retailing industry, operating more than 250 stores in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana and Arkansas.
